I have been involved with archery for eight years now. The majority of this time I have shot with the Society for Creative Anacronism. More recently I have begun to get involved with the indoor leagues in the winter.
Shortly after I got involved in archery I began studying to be an archery coach. Through my work as a volunteer coach with the SCA I began to get other coaching work. Five years ago I helped start the archery club at our local Institute of Technology and two years ago I set up a weekly shoot for the Boys and Girls club.
Finally, I will be going for my certification as a coach
(25-27 Apr 1997).
In the SCA we are limited to recurves, longbows, and crossbows. Arrows must be wood with feather fletchings.
Over my years in archery I have noted that the sport never loses its interest as long as you believe that someone out there can give you some extra information that will boost your score just a few more points.
Recently I have begun writing fiction about archery, as a way to pass the wet winters we have here in Vancouver, Canada.
My last word is that I spend the majority of my day thinking archery and I am glad that I have had the opportunity to get involved in the sport.
