I enjoy reading posts on both of the archery newsgroups. I will mainly look for posts that have a relationship to Korean traditional archery or Asian archery. When people have concerns in that area, I am very happy to help out.
The archery newsgroups, like others, sometimes have posts going way off subject. However, I think it is not as big a problem as most others. I think people find that the regulars tend to be like extended family members.
I mostly shoot a 49" Korean laminated traditional recurve(53# draw @ 31")They are fantastic bows. Occasionally, I shoot a traditional horn bow.
For arrows, I shoot both traditional bamboo and carbons.
My thumb ring of choice is made from pool ball plastic.
I started archery after my parents bought me a 25# glass fiber bow for my eighth birthday (my son shoots that same bow today). I continued on with my evolution by shooting a 50# olympic-style recurve, with all the bells and whistles, finally arriving at my destination of Korean traditional archery.
I quickly progressed in skill, only slowing down when my work schedule (I teach at a Korean university) got too heavy. Recently, I have started to regain my edge.
I have written magazine articles for Instinctive Archer Magazine, produced a video on horn bow crafting and also on bamboo arrow crafting.
I am a traditionalist. I have many friends who are into high tech gear and I am very happy for them. However, I have progressed from new and modern to old and traditional.
