| Me doing some flight shooting at the 2003 Nationals. Picked up Master classification, discovered how far a 2613 will go. Flight is one of the rare times I shoot a compound in anger. |
Hoyt Axis in the original flag colour, G3 70/42, Sureloc sight, Beiter button, 5" X10 extender (yes, I know, I'm lucky to have it) with a V-bar bolt to make it 6", 10" A/C/E twins with a tiny Cartel weight on each, and a 34" ACE longrod.
ACE 470s at the moment, having briefly experimented with X10s and not being monumentally impressed with the results (not enough to justify buying them, anyway). 2213s indoors because I can shoot them into a group and not weep when they go crunch.
Compound: I have two, neither of which sees more than about 1000 shots a year.
A) 2002 Hoyt Ultratec, started life with XT2000s 30.5" max draw, got some XT3000s for it and upped it to a 31" draw, shoots much nicer. I can't shoot it worth a damn indoors, but do 320ish for 70m most of the time. In it's previous incarnation, this one won a silver medal at an IFAA World Champs.
B) In the piccie at the top of the page, a 1999 Martin Fury. I bought it after I saw the IBO speed, and have used it for flight and the odd clout since, because it's quick. 5.5" brace height, so a bit touchy. Did I mention that it's fast?
5 years or so ago - joined a field club. Got shown how to not be a danger to myself and others. Field club shut 3 months later.
Shortly afterwards (6 months?) joined a target club, got introduced to the joys of metal risers. Massively dodgy referencing, which consisted entirely of finding the right bit of jawbone.
Went to York Uni in Oct 01, joined club. Lots of shooting, showed them the first compound anyone had seen (and there's now a fair few of them do it, I count that as a success), shot a 554 Portsmouth.
Summer 02, bought Aerotec, proceeded to break a lot of ACCs and have a disastrous indoor season because I switched to actually putting the string on my face and no-one explained how to use a clicker.
Summer 03, bought a bunch of X10s second hand and broke a lot of them instead (not through missing - bosses too solid). Bought some ACEs which lasted longer. Had a good indoor season, bought alis.
Summer 04, 1200 FITA, 1100 York, Grand Master Flight shot. Great season. Indoors, I listened to a "qualified coach" and shooting was a writeoff till Xmas. Got G3s after Xmas, returned to what I was doing, it started to work again...
Summer 05, lots of ups and downs! Started the season with a 970 FITA in horrible conditions at Timperley, promised myself I'd never again attempt a FITA before the end of May. Shot 1107 FITA on the 1st day of the Yorkshire weekend, then an 1106 York the following day, truly reflecting how unpredictable this season has been, although I managed to hit 1250 for a FITA on the nose and thus consider it a success.

If you make it complicated, it will become complicated.
If you keep it simple, it will be simple.
Aim in the middle, not off to one side.
