I started shooting back in 1990 at the age of 20. I used a one piece fiberglass recurve I dragged out of the attic at first but I soon bought a compound. My first real bow was a PSE USA Spirit Compound, sort of a cheapo bow with a BRIGHT Chartreuse riser. I had really wanted to get an olympic style recurve at the time but I was poor, living in the SE US (where they dont seem to sell them), and I had just recently gotten on the internet and had not yet discovered the archery newsgroups.
I shot the above bow through college. When I went to grad school several years later I stopped shooting due to a lack of time and a place to shoot. 10 Years later, armed with a wad of cash I didnt have 10 years before, I went out and bought a recurve.
My wife is expecting our first child and one night we were discussing sports we would like her (its a girl) to try. I thought of the great time I had with archery and suggested that. So I guess I used that as an excuse to spend $1k on a new bow and to start spending my free time in my back yard chipping holes in the house bricks around my target. (not really, I can at least hit at sheet of plywood (4X8) from 20 meters).
I have shot before but I would have to consider myself a beginner. I have never had a coach or lessons and that is probably why. I am extremely interested in getting together with other archers in my area and forming some sort of club.
One last thing...You can call me Leo if u want but I normally go by Scott. When I started poking around on archery matters I discovered that someone had already taken my name. I decided to use my middle name in anything archery related so people didnt confuse me with the other Scott (Who I am sure is a very fine person and archer, though we have never met). I can just imagine going to my very first competition and the confusion that would ensue. Me being the newbie I will defer to the old pro.
I dont really have any useful thoughts at the moment ;-)
If anyone in Eastern, AL or West, GA is interested in some sort of club, I'd be willing to participate. I live in AL along the I-85 corridor. I know there is a club in Atlanta but it would be nice to have something local. I am also desperately in need of a coach. I'd be willing to go to Altanta for that. If anyone knows of a good one willing to teach a beginning adult lemme know.
